FAMOUS CHART EXAMPLE

TIMOTHY MCVEIGH

Timothy McVeigh

Timothy McVeigh freely admitted that he planted and detonated the
Oklahoma bomb on April 19, 1995, which at that time was the most extreme act of terrorism in the United States.  The explosion killed 168 people including 19 children.  Where does the fanatical and obsessive idealism come from?  Can we see any astrological indications of potential violence in his natal birthchart?

There are several astro signatures that suggest tremendous tension as well as extreme, self-righteous fanaticism.  First, let's begin with a basic look at the skeletal framework of McVeigh's chart and go from there.  To begin, note a southeast region predominance of (north and south are reversed here) planets in the houses.  This emphasis suggests early developmental tensions linked to being pushed around, victimized or somehow swept up by the circumstances in his life.  The Eastern emphasis always suggests ego defensiveness or a life emphasis conditioned by ego justification.  McVeigh also has an emphasis of fixed Taurean energy along with no air planets.  This can lead to extreme stubbornness (such as too stubborn to admit remorse) as well as overcompensation for lack of air by rationalizing his violent plans away.  His Sun in Taurus and Moon in Pisces blend suggest energies to build and organize must have a sympathetic and idealistic outlet or cause.  A stellium of planets in the 11th house suggests a person who needs to identify beyond his own individuality and identify with a greater cause, like minded group or global community.  How these planetary energies would actually manifest in McVeigh's life depended upon several factors including the aspect configurations between his birthchart planets.

McVeigh was born with the revolutionary Uranus and Pluto conjunction in his 4th house of early homelife in challenge aspect to his ascendant (public persona), his Moon (emotions, mothering) and his Sun (identity, self image, father).  These aspects alone speak volumes about his early childhood experiences.  Uranus linked to Pluto is a rebellious aspect when linked to personal planets and angles in a birthchart.  Archetypal themes of profound change, rebellion, revolution and ego death and rebirth abound in the individual's life.  Using solar arc progressions, an astrologer may identify specific ages and time periods when these aspects became exact into manifestation.  For example, his progressions suggest ages 5 and 10 were times of crisis which could have engendered pronounced feelings of abandonment on his part.

With iconoclast and aloof Uranus in stress aspect to his Pisces Moon, his experience of  mother (Moon) was most likely erratic, unstable, unusual  or he may of experienced several moves and changes of residence which undermined his sense of 4th house roots and stability.  In addition, Uranus rules his 9th house of philosophical belief systems which suggests an individual who rebels against the status quo and blames others (opposition aspect) for perceived injustices.   We need to look further as this independent aspect is shared by many.  A study of  McVeigh's midpoint pictures rounds out the picture more clearly:  Uranus = Mercury/Mars - "rash, judgmental, losing self control, tremendous excitability, thinking and planning on the run", Uranus = Sun/Mars "high excitability, intense reflex actions, impulse, militarism, forceful adjustment of new circumstances".  (source: Noel Tyl text on Solar Arcs).  With Uranus in stress aspect to his ascendant, we can be sure that intensified individualism is publicly expressed and perceived by others.

With his Pisces Moon in challenge aspect to Pluto, McVeigh may have experienced his emotions (Moon) as difficult to control (Pluto).  This aspect suggests an all or nothing extreme emotional state..."either you are for me or you are against me."  There is often a tremendous need to control others and emotional obsessiveness stemming from inner feelings of powerlessness. This aspect can also suggest an intrusive and controlling (Pluto) mothering experience (Moon) (opposition aspect). A Pisces Moon is the archetype of the Samaritan or the prophet.  However, when linked to the Hades planet Pluto, we may see the shadow archetype emerge...the addict or the unstable person who is capable of developing extreme harshness and coldness.  There may even be masochistic tendencies in some cases.

Next, take note of his 12th house (action behind the scenes) Mars (action) in stress aspect to illusive
Neptune forming a T square to his Leo (arrogant) Jupiter in the 3rd house of communication.  This aspect suggests an extremely idealistic and potentially deceptive individual who may act (Mars) in a grandiose (Jupiter) manner.  Expansive Jupiter linked to heroic Mars may symbolize a risk taker or a fanatical zealot. Jupiter in stress aspect to Neptune can bring tests with illusion, delusion or martyrdom.  Why was McVeigh not able to manifest his Neptunian sensitivity more humanely?  The following midpoint pictures corroborate a more deceptive influence...Mars = Saturn/Pluto "enormous undercurrent of frustration...a gun with a cork in its barrel", Mars= Venus/Pluto "temperamental emotionalism", Jupiter = Sun/Moon "enthusiasm, success", Neptune = Moon/Mercury "falsehood", Neptune = Mercury/Pluto "overdoing issues", Neptune = Sun/Moon "deception, discontent, misunderstandings" and Sun= Mars/Saturn "possible threat to body"  This last midpoint also strongly suggests an abusive father situation.  Possibly, his father exerted harsh physical punishment or severe discipline...a "grown men don't cry mentality."  McVeigh's Sun (father) in stress aspect to Pluto also corroborates this finding. It is also worth mentioning that McVeigh's birthchart has been reported to contain 9 points which are considered "violent degrees" signifying "homicide, meanness, cold blooded execution".

Moving on to other aspects...McVeigh has Venus in warrior Aries closely conjoin oppressive Saturn in Aries in the 11th house of the collective.  This aspect also suggests much about his early upbringing and subsequent relationship dynamics.  This configuration suggests a fairly isolated individual, desperately needing closeness and public recognition, yet fearing it greatly at the same time.  Saturn always delays the development of whatever planetary principle it touches.  In Aries, the love principle linked to Saturn can manifest as cold aggression...a form of overcompensation...a frantic covering up of inner feelings of inadequacy.  This inadequacy may seek a group ideology or 11th house cause to prove itself worthy.

McVeigh's South Node (karmic past) in Libra is the focal point of a yod pattern often referred to as a (finger of God) aspect denoting a sense of fated mission to his life development.  This South Node is in quindecile (obsessive, upheaval) aspect to his Sun and Mercury in Taurus in the 11th house.  This mission would involve the values (Taurus) of the greater collective (house 11).  It is also in quindecile aspect to the wounded healer planet Chiron in Aries. With Chiron = Aries Point, the public projection of a deep sense of woundedness regarding the warrior archetype is evident or rather, woundedness in areas of masculinity and assertiveness.

McVeigh had many challenging transits in effect during that fateful day in 1995 triggering his natal birthchart.  Among them was transiting Chiron conjoining Pluto evoking the deep unearthing of  a primal wound. With his Pluto in the 4th house of early foundations and the end of the matter, as well as symbolizing our nation,  it was quite symbolic.  Transiting Saturn also conjoined his Piscean Moon in the 10th house of public accolades denoting sadness, mourning and oppressive conditions. Also, Saturn was opposing his Pluto in 4th suggesting breakthroughs or breakdowns. Remember, the Saturn and Pluto aspects are in effect during periods of collective war.  Sometimes, the wars are within our own familial collective.   With transiting Pluto going over his natal
Neptune, death concerns or other worldly events were in the making.  Radical Uranus was in aspect to his Sun and Mercury in the 11th house suggesting defiant, stubborn actions.  Last, but far from least, Pluto was in square aspect to his midheaven denoting power and publicity or powerful conflicts with authority figures.

Let the bomb he detonated in 1995 forever be a reminder how the world will weep at the spiral of violence, whether perpetrated by government or by single individuals. It was reported that on the day of his execution, a belt of stars known as the Weeping Sisters were on the same degree as his progressed Moon and progressed Venus...29 degrees of Taurus.
