ASTROLOGICALLY SPEAKING,

OCTOBER 2004 finds five planets in AIR SIGNS which thrive on increased social interaction and dissemination of ideas and philosophies.  Air signs are observant, intellectual, conceptualizing and cerebral.  They can also be emotionally aloof and rationalize away feelings with intellectual detachment.  During the first few weeks of October, air predominates, emphasizing social interconnectedness with others and mental restlessness.  When the Sun enters intense and investigative Scorpio on October 22nd, an atmosphere of lightness shifts to an interest in power, control issues and the deeper mysteries of life.  Scorpio individuals by nature are intense, shrewd and sometimes secretive.  They need to plumb the depths and reach for the heights in their efforts to understand human nature. 

The Solar Eclipse in partnership oriented Libra, on October 13th, falls under Saros Series 6 South.  According to author and professional astrologer Bernadette Brady, "This eclipse series is about being forceful and taking power.  It has a manic flavor about it, with great force or strength manifesting in the relationship area.  Individuals experiencing this Saros Series may experience sudden events, like falling in and out of love...The individual may exert a huge effort in some group activity."  The Full Moon Eclipse in Taurus on October 27th occurs just prior to election day in early November.  This particular Eclipse is significantly amplified by slow moving Neptune stationing direct motion, reminding us that we are all on this ONE vast planet TOGETHER.  All life on Earth is an expression of the divine, and all paths to the divine ultimately lead to the same place.  The sharp polarities of good and evil. light and dark and black and white are spotlighted under the light of a Full Moon, where stubborn egos seek to have and hold (Taurus) and others push for irrevocable change and rebirth (Scorpio).  This Full Moon will influence us to deeply question our social and political beliefs or stance... Who can help us create life affirming, evolutionary change for the greater good and still honor Mother Earth in the meantime?

Oct. 5 -  SUN-MERCURY CONJUNCTION IN LIBRA TRINE NEPTUNE   The Sun lends its solar warmth and brightness with Libran tact and diplomatic intelligence.  The Sun-Mercury alignment with dreamy and mystical Neptune offers an imaginary window for creative art, thinking and writing. 

Oct. 6 -  VENUS IN VIRGO OPPOSES URANUS IN PISCES   This aspect links sociability and relationships with change, excitement, uniqueness and individuality.  Eccentric surprises are in the air today...in areas of diplomacy and finances.  Instincts are urging change and variety, especially in areas of avant-garde art, friendships, networking, technology and high fashion.

Oct. 9 - 10 -  MERCURY SEXTILE PLUTO, MERCURY SQUARE CHIRON AND JUPITER INCONJUNCT URANUS  The  Mercury-Chiron vibration may elicit some painful truths and harsh words, though deep powers of concentration easily cut to the core of the matter.  Take advantage of opportunities for intellectual mastery and or mental self control.  

Jupiter-Uranus in stress aspect suggests revolutionary energies or disruptiveness.  Jupiter searches for the truth, while Uranus demands independence and freedom of thought.  This aspect can suggest a rebel with a cause or an unstable nonconformist.  Positively, we can apply unique approaches to problems.

Oct. 12 -  SUN SEXTILE PLUTO   Investigate, reform, transform or use your healing talents today.  Find deep satisfaction in areas of research or analysis.

Oct. 13 -  NEW MOON SOLAR ECLIPSE AT 21 LIBRA AT 10:49 PM (EDT), MERCURY SQUARE CHIRON AND SATURN   In whatever astrological house this Solar Eclipse occurs in your birthchart, is an area of your life which will become a source of illuminated focus and attention.  New Moons are symbolic of new beginnings and Chiron, the wounded healer planetary archetype, closely squares the Sun and Moon and opposes Saturn, demanding respect and karmic responsibility in areas of reconciliation and diplomacy.  The Mercury square to Saturn also foretells a time of serious, intellectual maturity or pessimism.  Be patient, think things through and cultivate discipline.  The Sabian Symbol for this degree of Libra offers hope..."A child giving birds a drink at a fountain;  the concern of simple souls for the welfare and happiness of less evolved beings who thirst for life renewal."  Personally, I will be watching this eclipse closely, as it conjoins my natal Sun in Libra.

Oct. 15 -  MARS TRINE NEPTUNE  Act imaginatively with creative inspiration.  Potential for excellence in areas of dance, choreography, sports, yoga and martial arts.

Oct. 17 -  MERCURY TRINE URANUS   Thinking and perceptions resonate with heightened intuition and originality.  Great time to make valuable contributions to groups. causes, or humanitarian organizations.  Great day to campaign!

Oct. 19 - 20 -  SUN SQUARE SATURN AND VENUS SQUARE PLUTO   These two days are serious and challenging on many levels.  A very strong sense of realism and responsibility permeates our lives.  Where is a critical nature and pessimism wreaking havoc in your life?  We are challenged to overcome deep fears of loss or rejection.  With Venus square Pluto on the 20th, many will be drawn into intense emotional issues.  Be mindful of power struggles over finances and sharing on all levels.  Tap into incredible endurance now and do what is necessary.  Remember, squares also represent ambition!

Oct. 21 -  VENUS TRINE CHIRON   Opportunities for healing and closure in all types of relationships.  Art, beauty, aesthetics, finances and relationships are the domain of Venus.  Chiron, the mythological centaur, guides us to new levels of consciousness in relating to others. 

Oct. 23 - 24   MERCURY SQUARE NEPTUNE AND NEPTUNE STATION DIRECT AT 12 AQUARIUS ON THE 24TH AT 7:57 AM (EDT)   The big challenge here is to transmute false propaganda, wishful thinking or escapist tendencies into creative or compassionate pursuits.  Distorted communications may cloud realistic perceptions.  Travel agendas may incur confusing or strange mishaps, as the planet of illusion and vulnerability makes its direct station.  Ideally, Neptune turning direct motion is symbolic of a major turning point in team efforts for interconnectedness and global aid.

Oct. 27 -  FULL MOON ECLIPSE AT 5 DEGREES TAURUS AT 11:08 PM (EDT)   The last time we had 5 degrees of Taurus-Scorpio illuminated by an eclipse was Oct. 28, 1985.  This Taurus Full Moon puts the spotlight on finances, ethical and business values, and our Earth's natural resources.  The polarity of Sun in ego death and rebirth Scorpio, in stress aspect to Pluto, challenges us to dig deep into the collective shadows for new insights.  Positively, Neptune's direct movement initiated a few days back, enhances all Full Moon healing work where prayers, transpersonal and spiritual energies are greatly amplified.

Oct. 31 - MOON IN GEMINI AND VENUS INCONJUNCT URANUS  ON HALLOWEEN,  a Gemini Moon lends a light and social atmosphere to an otherwise Scorpionic holiday.  The Venus-Uranus aspect is suggestive of the unusual as well as unexpected surprises.  Remember, this time of year is when the veils are thin between worlds...."Halloween descends from Samhain, the most significant holiday of the Celtic calendar...Samhain exposes a crease in time.  A fissure between summer and winter.  Between the old year and the new..."
