FAMOUS CHART EXAMPLE
MADONNA
To
Madonna,
world famous singer and actress, is from a large Italian family originally from
One of the first things an astrologer notices in a birthchart is hemisphere groupings. When planets are
clustered in a particular region of the birthchart we
receive an immediate starting point to synthesize the horoscope. In
Madonna's horoscope, the very first thing we notice is 8 of her planets are
located to the East suggesting ego defensiveness as well as an individual who
is powerfully self driven and independent. Her Leo Sun and Virgo Moon
suggest a dramatic, radiant spirit with a perfectionistic
charm. Negatively, there may be a tendency to hide insecurities behind a
defiant exterior. Her fire and earth energies are publicly expressed
through Virgoan qualities of precision, perfection
and organization. Mercury conjoin the ascendant is symbolic of one who must be
recognized for their ideas. In addition, Mercury rules her 10th house of career
and is powerfully placed on an angle. The intense and shrewd planet Pluto is
widely conjunct Madonna's ascendant which infers a powerful and transforming
presence. The predominance of planets in earth bestow much dedication,
ambition, drive and discipline...the ability to manifest in the "material
world". Madonna was born during a New Moon phase suggesting one who
may be obsessively self driven due to the insecurity of trying to establish a
"new" identity. New Moon individuals often have a star quality
about them. They do not function well according to other's predetermined
plans. Instead, they operate best spontaneously and instinctively.
There are several developmental concerns suggested from her
early home life with Saturn retrograde located in the 4th house of family and
parental foundation in challenging aspect to her Moon and quindecile
aspect to her midheaven. These difficult aspect
configurations suggest early feelings of abandonment, inferiority, lack of
emotional security, controlled emotions and upheaval in her family of origin.
We can appreciate that the death of Madonna's mother was extremely traumatic
for her. Astrologer Ricki Reeves in her book titled
The Quindecile, describes Saturn quindecile
the midheaven..."One who may be driven by a need
for approval from an authoritative parent...may become one's own authority in
life...may be driven to succeed....may climb to the top one step at a time, but
can get there".
Madonna's magnetic presence and ability to start anew is
suggested by several midpoint pictures (midpoint source: Noel Tyl's text on Solar Arcs). Note the following
midpoints and judge for yourselves...Pluto=Sun/Moon "changed circumstances
leading to critical phases of development in life or to separation from
others", Pluto = Mars/Saturn "The need to be in control, forcing an
issue, strong anger", Sun = Uranus/Pluto "The urge for independence
and freedom, revolution", Mars = Venus/Pluto "The sex drive dominates
expression, temperamental emotionalism", Uranus = Sun/Venus
"intensified sexuality", Mercury = Pluto/ascendant "the thrust
of intellect" and Midheaven = Mercury/Pluto
"leadership, resourcefulness". In addition she has the planet
Mars in quindecile aspect to
Delving further, we can clearly see the suggestion of
Madonna's deep interest in religion beautifully symbolized by her 12th house
planets. Planets in the 12 house have Piscean overtones and individuals
with planets here are often drawn to mysteries, religion and secrecy. Her
musical hit "Like a Prayer" is a fitting metaphor for her 12th house
Sun, Uranus, Pluto and Mercury! Her Leo Sun in wide conjunction to Pluto
links solar consciousness with depth and power, hence, her deep and
transforming personality.
Her Venus in Leo, on the other hand, is the archetype of the
drama queen needing public recognition (Venus in 11th house of group
consciousness). Her artistic Venus is in aspect to her dreamy
Jupiter/Neptune conjunction linking fantasy to her public performance.
Her Jupiter conjoining
We could delve even further...suffice to say that those of
us who are Madonna fans admire her for her intelligence, spunk and
courage. She is fearlessly frank and a natural born rebel who has
something to share with the greater collective. Personally, I view
Madonna's music as a spiritual path which has evolved considerably since her
early days of fame. I for one appreciate her derring-do!
