DIVINATION AND THE QUEST FOR MEANING

Divination is a non-ordinary means to access universal guidance where all things are possible.  The knowledge attained  thus empowers us by creating a clear channel between thought and action.  It helps us understand the clearest path to our future by revealing trends, probabilities and consequences of choices previously made.  The sacred art of divination is not new to our world.  It has existed since the beginning of time.  It has been used universally with reverence to access higher awareness.  Our ancient ancestors believed we had a meaningful universe.  For example, did you know that ancient Chaldean priests gathered portents from fire and smoke to seek guidance, or that the Navaho have long employed stargazing and hand trembling to discover the origins of sickness and the whereabouts of water?  Meaningful synchronicities had not yet been reduced to the concept of random chance as reductionistic science would have us believe.  Today, divination is reemerging into our analytical, left brained and soul starved world, utilizing ancient tools such as hypnotherapy, tarot, astrology, channeling, crystals,  and oracles of all kinds.  These ancient methods encourage us to look inward and reconnect to our own serene knowledge and intuition.  This inner knowing is already present within all of us, awaiting recognition and joyous expression.

It is important to make the distinction between sacred divination and mere prediction.  In our modern, high-tech society, the divine is often reduced to superstitious fortunetelling where our fates are cast in stone, allowing fear to supersede empowering choice. Collectively, we are denied access to our inner states of being or unconscious realm.  Even though divination requires no elaborate skills, the development of inner psychic faculties are either low on our priority list or nonexistent.  We are  certainly not taught to use our intuition in traditional education, only logic and reason prevail in our educational institutions. 

Divination may be understood more clearly when we consider the role metaphysics plays in our connecting to a higher source.  Metaphysics is simply the study of things beyond the physical.  There is nothing magical or mystical about metaphysics.  It offers deep understanding of the fundamental laws of the universe, such as the simple, yet profound metaphysical law..."As above, so below."  Metaphysics recognizes that we are also energy, soul and spirit.  It provides a framework to answer universal questions such as, "Who am I?" "What is my purpose?" or "Where I am I going?".  Lacking a fundamental awareness of our spiritual nature denies access to recognition of the true self.  Until we recognize that we are spiritual beings in a physical body, we undoubtedly will experience apathy, disillusionment or divine discontent.  Divination provides an opportunity to bridge our earthly and spiritual nature, thus precipitating a positive feeling of meaning and fulfillment. Once we make a connection to our muse, higher source or creative imagination, we come to the realization of just how amazing our potential really is.

One metaphysical author compared our vast potential to the growth cycle of a magnificently tall sequoia tree.  In paraphrasing his analogy, he explains how the sequoia grows from a very small seedling.  Within this tiny seed is the master blueprint for its entire vast potential.  If as humans, we become oppressed by the perfectionistic demands and expectations of others or society, we instead  become much like the bonsai tree.  The bonsai is limited, constrained and wired down by external forces. It is not able to fulfill its vast potential with such oppressive conditions.  Divination thus engages us on all levels to tap into our seed potential, and access our divine potential on a subconscious or superconscious level.  It offers us the wonderful gift of recognition and validation, thus helping us  to choose a more meaningful path.

Divination recognizes that there are basically three levels or divisions of the mind: the conscious mind, the subconscious mind and superconscious mind.  During the act of divination, we still the turbulent waters of the doubtful and logical mind which focuses exclusively on the practicalities of the here and now.  It is the conscious mind that allows doubts and fears to block access to the symbolic storehouse of images in our subconscious.  Though the conscious mind is bound by space and time, the intuitive and pictorial subconscious mind transcends these earthly limitations, where it has unlimited access to the past, present and future trends or probabilities.  The third and highest level, the superconscious mind, is a rare state only obtained by masters or those dedicated to consistent inner attunement and meditation.  It is the level of the akashic records and connection to the source of all that is. However, it is important to mention that many of us tap into this level in our dream state where we are not bound by space, time or distance. 

In regard to this time-space continuum, a discussion about divination would not be complete without mention of modern physics.  Quantum physics is now forming a new methodology or a more balanced picture of reality, which integrates both the metaphysical and natural sciences.  In the distant past, natural scientists discovered that by isolating an object from its spiritual component, they could learn a great deal more about the material world.  More recently in history, however, modern physics has gained phenomenal momentum with its shocking and controversial challenges to conventional science.  For example, the concept of space-time as we perceive it, may actually be directionless!  Even though we perceive time as moving forward, this does not mean that time develops in a linear fashion.  On the contrary, it is quite possible that we view only a small cross section of space-time in our everyday reality.

This conceptualization of time helps to explain the process of divination, where the future is perceived as a continuum of possibilities with certain trends prevailing.  In essence, the microworld of the quantum and the macroworld of our perceived reality converge during divination.  Though we cannot yet explain this process in full, remember this, there was a time when natural science dismissed the incredulous proposition that blood circulated through our bodies!


In conclusion, it is now time to revision our global perception about the composition of the universe and embrace the very "real" world of sacred divination.  There is a fertile abundance of empowering divinatory tools available to us today.  Experiment with an open mind and an open heart.  Always remember that true divination is empowering and choice centered.  Beware of those who offer nothing more than fatalistic predictions cast in stone.  This is not true divination!  THE TRUTH AND ALL ANSWERS ARE WITHIN YOU.  DIVINATION ASSISTS IN ACCESSING YOUR INNER TRUTH.
