TWENTY FIRST CENTURY AGE OF TRANSITION -

THE COSMIC ROAD MAP TO 2012!

Welcome to the transformational 21st century where change, chaos and rebirth are destined to impact the globe!  Each of us living on planet earth at this time of great social and economic change chose to be here and we each have an opportunity to fully participate in a major shift of global consciousness.  We are approaching what the Mayans call “the end of the great cycle of the fourth world”, which identifies the peak of this cycle during the Winter Solstice of 2012.  According to Mayan scholars, our current cycle of time ending in 2012 began in 3113 BC.   The Mayans had an advanced and sacred calendar that consisted of 13 baktuns called a long count (3113 BC to December 2012).  The number 13 is a very important number in ancient civilizations.  During the December 2012 Winter Solstice, the Sun will align with the center of our galaxy which the Mayans consider the “Great Cosmic Mother”.   Mayan elders and Mayan scholars propose that time as we know it is speeding up as we adjust to higher frequencies.    There are resulting shifts in consciousness happening all over the world.  The big picture tells us we are birthing a New Age just as the Sun is “birthed anew from the Galactic Womb”.   If you are interested in reading an outstanding and groundbreaking book on Mayan cosmology, I highly recommend delving into “The Mayan Calendar and the Transformation of Consciousness” by Carl Johan Calleman who holds a Ph.D. in physical biology.  He began his studies in 1979 and lectures throughout the world.  According to Calleman, the Mayan calendar is a pyramidal structure representing nine levels of consciousness.  He proposes we are in the final preparation phase for the universal level of conscious enlightenment.  I cannot give this scholarly work justice in one paragraph.  Please read it if you wish to fully understand this metaphysical map of evolution.

The study of  astrological cycles occurring simultaneously (the coming astrological cycles coincide powerfully with the Mayan cycles) will help us to fully understand and  take advantage of the coming changes.  Those of us who practice the healing art and science of astrology have  the ability to make a difference by educating the collective about these changes in efforts to help humanity understand why we live in such challenging times.    The planetary cycles are literally our cosmic road map in  foreign terrain!  They help us identify major archetypal patterns influencing human behavior.  The planets are culminating in challenging cardinal (initiating and active) patterns emphasizing MAJOR, WORLD WIDE DEVELOPOMENTS AND REFORM, both individually and globally between the present time  and 2012.  The cardinal signs symbolize a potent  and auspicious beginning as each season is birthed once again at the solstices and equinoxes.   We can expect accelerated changes as unity consciousness prevails over duality consciousness.  What exactly does this mean?

It means the world is changing and our current way of life is unsustainable for future generations.  For example, how will our children and grandchildren live without fossil fuels?  We cannot ignore the obvious signs of a planet out of balance with poverty, starvation, never ending wars, extreme debt, climate change, rising sea levels. loss of protective sea ice, devastating storms and floods, extinction of animals, diseased  bee colonies, destruction of forests and declining soil fertility to name a few.   We are called upon, whether we are comfortable with it or not, to collectively  find different ways to meet our needs for energy, food, buildings, travel and education or we will be continue to be devastatingly out of touch with natural law.  It’s important to remember that many earth conscious people are already working to facilitate positive change all over the globe.  We rarely hear about these efforts on the nightly news as the media tends to focus on celebrity hype, political agendas, violence and adversity.

Let’s take a look at several important cosmic cycles culminating together over the next few years to help us better understand the energy patterns which are destined to manifest on this planet.  In addition, we can overlay these energy patterns (current planetary cycles) to our natal  birth charts for personalized insights into which specific areas of our lives are ripe for change.   Now is the time to empower ourselves by learning about our cosmic blue print which is a map of the heavens at the precise moment of our birth and location of our birth.    Many of us will have natal planets or important degrees triggered by the coming cycles and we will be riding out the winds of change in own lives.  Those of us who have our cosmic blue print at hand will be well prepared for the trip!

JANUARY 2008-2024-   PLUTO IN CAPRICORN***

Capricorn symbolizes our structural foundation, individually and collectively.    It presides over buildings, bridges, road ways, real estate, authority figures, leaders, government, financial markets, earth’s resources, tradition,  business, corporations, established institutions,  established regimes, ancient alliances and the elderly population.

Pluto is the archetype of volcanic upheaval,  irrevocable change and transformation. It is a  “date with destiny” so to speak which is transpersonal and  a far greater influence than our small egos!  It exerts a generational influence as it settles into a new zodiac sign.  It is a cosmic plunger which seeks to eradicate anything murky or poisonous that blocks the flow of growth and change.  Pluto has been in Sagittarius, the sign symbolizing truth,  beliefs and ideologies since 1995. We all have witnessed  themes of upheaval and change in Sagittarius ruled areas such as religious fanaticism, religious wars, school shootings,  rampant sexual abuse in the Catholic church and the Supreme Court’s abuse of power when it elected President Bush over presidential candidate Al Gore.

In January 2008, Pluto left ideological Sagittarius for Capricorn’s structural domain (It will briefly retrograde into late degrees of Sagittarius this year before it completely settles in). The last time Pluto entered Capricorn was in the 18th century when the structural foundation was laid for the birth of the American Republic!  It was a revolutionary time in history.  What can we expect now?  We are now entering a long cycle which demands transformation of the social order.  All structures are ripe to be tested and if there are cracks in a faulty foundation, they will come down….literally or metaphorically.   Because Capricorn is an energy that resonates with control and authority, there will be resistance as birth of a new social order requires us to go through growing pains. These struggles are not simply random chaos, rather, they are here to teach us how to apply social consciousness and wise leadership to old structures which are no longer serving our highest good.     A recent example of transiting Pluto at the time of this writing (April 2008) is Pluto’s transit to the Sun-Pluto opposition in the Federal Reserve birth chart (December 23, 1913)….Volatility and change in the financial markets!   The Fed is asking for new powers of authority (Pluto in Capricorn) to oversee U.S. financial markets when it was originally conceived to oversee commercial banks only.   Several presidents in U.S. history were actually against a Federal Reserve institution and voiced their concerns.  It is important to mention that Pluto transiting Capricorn will eventually oppose the U.S. Venus, Jupiter and Sun in Cancer in the seventh house of the United States birth chart dated July 4, 1776 at 5:10:00 PM in Philadelphia, PA.   Pluto in opposition to seventh house planets in a nation's chart will facilitate collective karmic lessons and transformation of partnering and relating to the rest of the world.

Individuals with natal planets or birth chart angular degrees in early cardinal degrees of Capricorn, Libra, Aries and Cancer or late mutable degrees of Virgo, Pisces, Gemini and Sagittarius can expect unprecedented change and reform of outmoded structures whether in areas of career, home and family, marriage or physical health routines.  If possible, find out where these archetypes are playing out in your life through knowledge of your birth map and maximize your preparedness and readiness for an evolutionary leap of consciousness over the next few years.  Be prepared!

FALL 2008 THROUGH 2009 -  SATURN IN VIRGO OPPOSES URANUS IN PISCES AT 19-24 DEGREES OF VIRGO-PISCES***  REPEATS IN 2010 AT 29 VIRGO-PISCES AND LIBRA-ARIES***

The last time these two fundamentally different planets dynamically opposed each other was in 1964-65 in the Pisces-Virgo polarity (Saturn in Pisces opposed Uranus in Virgo).   Those of us born during the early to mid 1960’s have lived this climactic force of status quo versus radical change throughout our life experiences.   An opposition aspect demands a resolution or balance of differences through crisis or conflict.   What do we do when we are torn between following the rules or breaking them?   Saturn represents authority figures and Uranus represents rebellion.  Some Saturn key words are old, tradition, establishment and the tried and true.  Key words describing the archetypal energy of Uranus are progressive change, revolution and individuality.  When these two planets oppose each other, get ready for a symbolic confrontation which must take both sides into consideration.  It’s a give and take proposition and a breaking away from tradition must occur on some level.

Many individuals in the face of adversity will learn how to resolve these differences.  In particular, those individuals with natal planets or chart angles at mid degrees of mutable signs (18-25 degrees of Virgo, Pisces, Gemini and Sagittarius) can expect a Promethean like shape shifting of structures.   This tension producing, old versus new alignment can bring a breath of fresh air and electrifying excitement to stifling circumstances.   Another way to look at Saturn-Uranus is dedication and perseverance aligned with innovative progress.  Challenging events arise to wake us out our Saturnine slumber in efforts to claim our own personal brand of genius.  Collectively, we will be cosmically attuned to breaking up rigid structures, cutting through encumbrances to progress and  experiencing surprising and unexpected events.  The first passage of this opposition between the old and new takes place during the presidential election.   One of the candidates is destined to be a pattern breaker.

SPRING THROUGH FALL AND WINTER 2009-  CHIRON IN AQUARIUS CONJOINS NEPTUNE IN AQUARIUS AT 24-26 DEGREES OF AQUARIUS***

Chiron symbolizes pain evoking initiations or uncontrollable life circumstances which open our hearts through suffering and/or compassion.  Mythically speaking, Chiron was an immortal centaur….Half -man and half-horse.  This split symbolically represents an innate yearning to bridge  our mortal condition to our divine nature.  The Chiron myth tells a story about why Chiron was abandoned at birth by rejecting parents.  Fortunately, he was taken in and fostered by Apollo who taught him music, astronomy, astrology, archery, various medicinal healing arts and the art of warfare.  Chiron was accidentally wounded by a poisonous arrow and he tried in vain to heal this painful wound.    He became known as the archetype of the wounded healer who in efforts to heal himself, not only learned how to help others, he became a master healer, teacher and mentor of heroes.

The planet Neptune symbolizes our capacity for inspiration, spiritual faith, surrender, empathy and compassion.   It symbolizes the intuitive, watery realm of the unconscious as well as the ocean itself.   Neptune energy seeks to transcend every day earth reality and connect with the intangibles of life whether through the medium of art, music, nature or metaphysics.  The unconscious default of Neptune is escapism through various addictions such as alcohol and drugs.   All is not as it seems with Neptune because it is a planet that symbolizes an ethereal formlessness or psychic fog so to speak.  Neptune when manifested on a lower vibrational level often unleashes evasiveness, cheating and deception as it’s chameleon like nature becomes twisted into something more sinister.

The cosmic alignment of this pair will be a potent spiritual force to unleash compassion through some kind of crisis or circumstances both individually and collectively as Neptune and Chiron will be in close proximity to the natal Moon in the birth chart of the United States.  The U.S. Moon at 27 degrees of Aquarius is located in the third house of transport and communication.   The Moon in mundane astrology represents the collective mood of the people. The third house of a horoscope rules over day to day travel, commuting, correspondence, mobility, communication,  communication devices, networking, the postal service, the press and roads and vehicles.

NOVEMBER 2009 THROUGH 2010-  SATURN ENTERS O DEGREES OF LIBRA AND SQUARES PLUTO IN CAPRICORN-***

-CULMINATING IN A T SQUARE BETWEEN SATURN, URANUS AND PLUTO AS URANUS ENTERS 0 ARIES IN MAY 2010***

Saturn will enter the cardinal sign of Libra in the fall of 2009.  With Pluto in early Capricorn and Uranus about to enter 0 Aries, a volatile and active  cardinal T square configuration symbolizing inevitable crisis, change and transformation is in the making and will burst through on the collective scene.  Saturn-Pluto alignments demand that we scale back, cut our losses and work very hard to build anew.  This pattern is most often suggestive of economic and military crises.   Saturn represents that which is solid and enduring and Pluto is the cosmic wrecking ball which comes along to break down the walls of resistance.   Depending on how these planetary positions aspect planets in our natal birth charts, each us will experience different variations of the same theme.  Some individuals will experience this aspect much more intensely than others.  The 1993 square hit my natal chart hard and my life changed shortly thereafter…destiny had other plans for me. If I had understood astrology back then, I would have been psychologically prepared.  In retrospect, it all makes sense that life demanded I take responsibility for a major, worthwhile endeavor.

The 38 year Saturn-Pluto cycle we are currently experiencing originated at the conjunction (joining together) of Saturn and Pluto in Libra in October 1982.  This cycle will not complete itself until 2020 when a new cycle starts all over again. When a planetary pair in aspect over a long cycle enters the square aspect, whatever was birthed at the conjunction reaches a crisis point.  We experienced the waxing square in 1993 in Aquarius-Scorpio and the opposition in 2001 in the Gemini-Sagittarius.  The approaching waning square will occur in Libra-Capricorn.  This aspect will be have a competitive, authoritative and confrontational nature.

Those individuals with planets or important birth chart angles in early cardinal and late mutable signs will be called upon deal with some kind of scarcity or to fight hard for something.  It will be important to be debt free and find constructive outlets where authority, will power and strength are used in a life affirming manner.  If power issues arise, consider them learning experiences and give thanks for the opportunity to find something you are willing to fight for.

MAY 2010 - URANUS ENTERS 0 DEGREES ARIES-***

URANUS APPROACHING SQUARE TO PLUTO (EXACT IN 2011 AND 2012)***

JUNE 2010 - JUPITER CONJOINS URANUS AT 0 DEGREES ARIES***

Uranus symbolizes radical and revolutionary change and Aries is a take charge and assertive energy.  When Uranus transits through warrior like Aries for approximately seven years it is most definitely going to stir things up in areas of humanitarian action or social liberation.   The last time Uranus transited Aries was 1927-1935 when our economy took a nosedive with the stock market crash in 1927 and subsequent Great Depression, which demanded innovative new economical approaches.  More positively, Uranus in Aries can be a dynamic time when intuition, individuality and scientific progress are extremely heightened in the world at large.  A progressive approach will be needed to address the increasingly desperate state of our natural environment.  During the summer of 2010, the Jupiter-Uranus conjunction will oppose Saturn and square Pluto, a configuration associated with upheaval and change.  The Jupiter-Saturn opposition (expansion versus contraction) will be the midpoint of a twenty year cycle which was began at 22 degrees in Taurus in May of the year 2000.

When Uranus enters 0 Aries, it will be one degree away from opposing the Midheaven (reputation and status) of the United States birth chart, suggesting the birth of new movements.   When Uranus opposes the U.S. Midheaven, it will simultaneously cross the 4th house cusp of home and foundation (in mundane astrology the 4th cusp symbolizes our home as a nation).  Individually speaking, individuals with late mutable degrees or early cardinal degrees in their birth charts will be navigating sudden changes calling for individuality and assertive and innovative approaches.

The Jupiter-Uranus conjunction at 0 Aries is like adding lighter fluid to the fires of individuality and freedom. Jupiter-Uranus is suggestive of  dynamic leadership, bold advances in spirituality and scientific progress.  The default manifestation of this alignment would be impetuous and rebellious actions which detract from the unity consciousness our planet is crying out for.   Where will this cycle seed itself with the promise of exciting new developments in your birth chart?

2010-2012- ECLIPSES IN THE CANCER-CAPRICORN POLARITY SIGNIFICANTLY IMPACT THE U.S. NATAL CHART***

JULY 2011 - APRIL 2015- EXPLOSIVE URANUS IN ARIES SQUARE PLUTO IN CAPRICORN***

This is the “Grand Daddy” of all the aspects discussed thus far in this article.  This revolutionary and chaotic aspect ushers in a long period of social struggle and change of the status quo.   Whatever was birthed at the conjunction phase reaches a crisis point at the square aspect. Uranus in challenge aspect to Pluto (freedom and power) is a powerful and destabilizing force which must manifest in the collective.  Pluto symbolizes our primitive survival instincts and Uranus symbolizes electrifying change.  Uranus-Pluto contacts unleash difficult energies we do not necessarily enjoy.  The potential for violence is potent during this cycle as Pluto rules over nuclear weapons and bombs and Uranus symbolizes sudden rebellion.  More positively, this can be a time when brilliant solutions to old problems explode on the world scene.  Ideally, inventive leadership will pave the way with innovative ways to sustain our planet.  Individuals whose natal charts are plugged into this configuration can expect their own personal experience of revolutionary change.

The last Uranus-Pluto square occurred during the 1930’s period of economic upheaval and instability.  The beginning of our current Uranus-Pluto cycle was seeded at the mid 1960’s conjunction in Virgo, when the “free love” generation burst on the scene.  The sixties were a time of artistic, economic and social progress.   These years witnessed radically changing values, rebellion, rioting, experimentation, invention, revolution and liberation.  The icons of this period were Janis Joplin, Jimi Hendrix and the Beatles as their musical artistry exemplified the archetypal forces of radical change.  Those of us born within orb of this conjunction must live out the archetypal force of progress and change in our individual lives.   We are the front runners of change.

We will experience 8 exact squares during this time period:  July 2011, June 2012, July 2012, May-June 2013, October-November  2013, April 2014, November-December 2015 and January-February 2015.   Though the last square occurs in 2015, this planetary pair will be in a wide orb aspect through 2018.

2011-2012- NEPTUNE LEAVES AQUARIUS AND ENTERS PISCES***

Neptune entering artistic, spiritual and compassionate Pisces, the sign that it naturally rules, for 14 years suggests hope and inspiration during what may be trying times.  Neptune energy is sensitive, idealistic, responsive and impressionable.  Those individuals with planets in early degrees of Pisces, Virgo, Gemini and Sagittarius will experience tests of faith in the unknown leading to a more enlightened vision of reality.  As a collective energetic imprint, it facilitates enhanced states of consciousness and the awareness of the oneness of creation.

Personally speaking, I find comfort and solace in contemplating these various cycles, for they are ultimately harbingers of a better world.  Perhaps Mr. Calleman is correct after all when he proposes that we are truly in the final stages of achieving enlightenment.
