Our North Node.... Our Destiny Calling

In one way or another, we are all seeking a sense of wholeness, harmony and spiritual understanding during our sojourn on planet Earth.  Astrological understanding offers us a celestial roadmap providing instantaneous insights on how best to align with our soul's plan.  The Moon's Nodes, in particular,  convey very important messages about our life lessons...where we are challenged to grow and manifest into form and also where we encouraged to review, release and let go.

The Lunar Nodes are points in space where the Moon crosses the ecliptic of the Earth's orbit.  They travel backwards through the zodiac, through a sign in nineteen months and through the entire zodiac in approximately eighteen years.  In our birthcharts, we will find our nodal axis in two of the twelve astrological houses.  The South Node is always exactly opposite the North node.  The houses indicate WHERE we express the nodal energies and the signs are HOW we go about doing this.  The South Node indicates behavior patterns from the past which are considered innate talents and strengths, as well as any innate compulsive or rigid behavior patterns.  The North Node, on the other hand, points to a new soul experience, life purpose or new behavior patterns which ultimately provide balance and integration.  Those of us (myself included) with natal planets conjoining both the North and South nodes are especially challenged to bring opposing energies into alignment.  Individuals with planets linked to the South Node are called upon to rework old issues before they awaken to their North node destiny.  Conversely, those with planets conjoin the North Node are given an added celestial push to actualize their current life tasks.

Let's take a look at a few basic examples of the North Node located in different houses of the natal horoscope.  In my own horoscope, I have the North Node in Leo placed in my 12th house conjoining the planet Mars.  The Mars emphasis, used positively, is the archetype of the spiritual warrior.  Ideally, my capacity to act and assert myself must incorporate 12th house pursuits...spirituality, service, compassion, dreams, symbolism, artistic creativity, psychic work, counseling, health and healing or solitude and transcendence.  I am also challenged to let go of incessant worrying about details (6th house polarity) and "let go and let God".  I feel most fulfilled and centered when I allow myself ample time for quiet contemplation and inspired solitude.

An astrological client named Alice has her North Node in Capricorn in the 10th house of her horoscope.  Her path of fulfillment lies in the public, career sector of the birthchart.  She is challenged to become an authority figure in her field.  She is moving away from a feeling oriented existence (4th house polarity) to one of hard work and fulfillment of career ideals.  She is called to cultivate a worldly, serious and rational perspective...to set ambitious goals and let nothing stand in her way.  When she is involved with the public on a regular basis, achieving far reaching goals she has set for herself, she will know inherently that she is on track.

Another client named Carla has her Aries North Node in the first house of identity conjoining the planet Saturn.  Carla is developing a responsible and keen sense of her individuality.  She is integrating a balance between a successful partnership (7th house polarity) and a strong sense of self.  She will feel off center if  she consistently gives in to the demands of others and sacrifices her own identity in the process.  She is challenged to utilize well structured initiative and independent action.

In our last example, Eric has his Aquarian North Node in the 9th house of higher truths. Eric is challenged to go beyond everyday logic (3rd house polarity) and trust his intuition.  His life tasks may involve religion, metaphysics, publishing, travel, higher education, the law and a deep understanding of greater truths.  He is cultivating faith, inspiration and holistic understanding of the bigger picture in life.  If he consistently disregards his intuition and does not seek higher truths, he will feel off track.  It is not until he awakens to the seeker archetype that he will feel in complete alignment with his soul's plan.

It is important to mention that the Nodes are also associated with emotional relationships because of their connection to the Moon which is symbolic of the nurturing principle...that which is protecting, comforting and nourishing.  The Moon's Nodes are linked to our life purpose, our significant relationships and our life lessons.  Transits to our Nodal axis in our birthcharts often bring karmic relationships into our lives to actualize our intended purpose.  In fact, our partners become co-creators in the dramas of our lives.
