"What are my financial prospects if

I choose to leave my company and go it alone?"

James was contemplating leaving his current, unfulfilling sales position and starting up his own company.  His question of the tarot was, "What are my financial prospects if I choose to leave my company and go it alone?".  We chose the following 3 card spread and James chose three cards from the Rider-Waite deck....

Card 1) IMMEDIATE FINANCIAL FUTURE     JUDGEMENT

Card 2) NEAR FUTURE (1-2 YEARS)            EIGHT OF SWORDS

Card 3) FUTURE (3 OR MORE YEARS)        EIGHT OF PENTACLES

Card 1)    JUDGEMENT is one of the Major Arcana cards in the tarot depicting greater spiritual truths and major life developments, suggesting that Jame's immediate financial future is ripe for a major new perspective or rite of passage.  This card often comes up when an individual is experiencing a release from past constrictions of self-doubt, guilt and false judgements of others.  Judgement represents a call to higher awareness and evolved perspective of ones circumstances in life.  Perhaps James will soon feel a calling toward a higher purpose regarding his profession.  In regard to finance, Judgement suggests that James may need to make dramatically different and difficult choices but necessary decisions to make his new professional goals a reality.  The message of Judgement challenges us to atone and forgive the past.  It also symbolizes a shedding of illusions so that we can ground our personality towards a higher purpose.  James will possibly experience a "wake up call" regarding his previous financial choices and patterns of spending (such as paying off long-standing credit card debt).  Judgement indicates a period of deep self-evaluation and paradigm shifts in consciousness, which herald a new financial cycle and future.  James will be called upon to take responsibility for his financial history to date.  In conclusion, Jame's immediate future regarding his financial status is one of movement, change, atonement and resurrection.

Card 2)    EIGHT OF SWORDS in his near future position suggests that James will have to contend with some financial restrictions or frustrating limitations in order to get his new business off the ground.  James was not surprised to see this card as he had recently discussed the necessity of curbing extraneous expenditures with his family.  This would not be easy as he and his family are accustomed to yearly family vacations and various recreational pursuits.  The suit of swords in the tarot depict various mental challenges and crises to overcome.  It is also important to remember that most of our limitations in life are actually self imposed.  A self-critical or self-sabotaging mindset can wreak havoc on the most well intentioned of plans.  On the other hand, initial sacrifice and enforced restrictions can lead to future gains as evidenced in the next card chosen by James.  In conclusion, the eight is  a number of power, movement and regeneration.  James must be prepared to apply self determination and ingenuity to navigate a short period of financial sacrifice.  Because the eight of swords falls to the right of Judgement, it appears that when James is ready to realize his calling, he may be in for "wake up call" regarding acceptance and renewal regarding his current financial responsibilities or lack thereof.  The eight of swords suggests that Jame's new career venture may necessitate a short term financial vulnerability, however, with hard work and determination we can see the fruits of his labor in examining the next card chosen...

Card 3) Here we have another eight!  The EIGHT OF PENTACLES follows the eight of swords further suggesting themes of power, courage and endurance.  If you turn the number eight on its side, it forms the lemniscate...the symbol of infinity, or in this case, the eternal motivation to conquer obstacles with conviction and purpose.  If James is able to weather short term fiscal restrictions, his financial future in regard to his new business looks stable and secure.  The pentacles suit in the tarot is symbolic of seeking mastery on the material plane.  The eight of pentacles suggests concentrated diligence and effort which brings rewards.  This card suggests the master apprentice...one who embodies craftsmanship, efficiency and pride in his work.  Possibly, his profession may involve further training, research and/or education to achieve his long term goals and meet high quality standards.  This card certainly suggests that there is a profitable market for his sales product.

In summary, James has some very important decisions to make which will require him to be objective and impartial.  It appears that he may have to "face the music" and pay off some outstanding debts, while enduring some short term financial discomfort.  However, the financial future offers potential stability and security IF he decides to apply himself with patience, conviction and purpose.
